Ironbridge Power Station Chimney Demolition

Harworth Group plc (Harworth) has announced that the demolition of the former Ironbridge Power Station’s chimney is scheduled for between 10.00am and 1.00pm on Friday, 3rd September 2021.
This timetable is subject to prevailing weather, wind and other conditions, but if any postponed or changes to the arrangements are required, we will let you know as soon as possible.
Harworth’s principal concern is to bring the chimney down safely, in compliance with the Section 81 notice issued by Shropshire Council for this purpose.
As with previous demolitions on the site, to keep everyone safe, a 650m safety exclusion zone will be in place shortly before, during and for a period after the demolition, during which there will be no public access.
Details of this zone are attached and can also be viewed here: ironbridgeregeneration.co.uk
Buildwas road will be closed between 9am and 6pm from the A4169 Much Wenlock road junction to the Dale End roundabout.
There will be gatemen in place during this time to direct persons requiring access to frontages only. Other ancillary roads and some footpaths will also be temporarily closed during the same period for the safety of the public.
The blowdown of the chimney will generate some dust, which should fall within immediate vicinity of the structure, and inside the exclusion zone.
However, it is possible that some dust will travel further, so any local residents with respiratory conditions are advised to stay indoors during and immediately after the demolition takes place.
Updates relating to the demolition will be posted at ironbridgeregeneration.co.uk.
Harworth are very grateful to local residents and businesses for their continued co-operation and patience throughout the demolition works.
