Ironbridge Power Station Redevelopment

Shropshire Council has received the following applications associated with redevelopment of the former Ironbridge power station site. The details are now available for review and comment on the Council’s planning portal:

  1. Outline application (reference 19/05560/OUT):Includes plans for 1,000 homes, a new local centre to contain a mix of leisure, commercial, retail and health uses, a primary school, nature corridors, public open space and the re-use of the site’s pump house to support either retail, community or river-based uses.
  2. Application for sand and gravel extraction (reference 19/05509/MAW): Proposal to extract up to 1.9million tonnes of sand and gravel .

Part of the area for application reference 19/05560/OUT falls within Telford & Wrekin Council and the applicant Harworth Group PLC has submitted an equivalent application to Telford & Wrekin (reference TWC/2019/1046). The Council’s will work constructively to assess the applications which are the subject of a comprehensive planning consultation process.

Members of the public can view and make comments on the applications by entering the appropriate application reference on the Council’s online planning register.

Key supporting documents available on the portal which detail the applications include:

    • Design & Access Statement
    • Transport Assessment
    • Environmental plans (including flood risk and ecological assessments).

The applications will be open to public comments for an extended period of 56 days and are expected to take six months to determine.
