On Saturday, 19th March Councillors and members of the public met at the Old Cemetery in Much Wenlock to plant 10 trees as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Donations towards the cost of the trees were given by residents, local groups and Councillors, for which the Council is very grateful. Thanks are also extended to those who participated in the planting event and to the Friends of the Old Cemetery, in particular, Mrs Lesley Durbin, for planning and managing the project.
The tree varieties planted are Sorbus Aucuparia (rowan), Sorbus Commixta Embley (rowan) and Crataegus Prunifolia (hawthorn). The trees are intended to benefit wildlife and enhance the environment, providing seasonal colour in the old part of the cemetery.
