Gaskell Recreation Ground Drainage
We are pleased to report that drainage work on the Gaskell Recreation Ground is scheduled to begin on 19thAugust. Following heavy rain parts of the ground are currently often waterlogged and unusable. This particularly affects the children’s play area. The drainage work will improve the play area, the sports pitches and the informal areas of the park and will allow the community to enjoy the Gaskell Recreation Ground all year round, without the need for waders.
The project is expected to take three to four weeks, depending on the weather. The Gaskell Ground will remain open to the public during the work but different areas will need to be fenced off as the project progresses. Please take care during the works and respect the temporary boundaries, which are there for your safety.
Ironbridge Power Station
Shropshire Council commenced formal consultation on its Strategic Sites on 1stJuly and the consultation period will run until 9thSeptember. This consultation includes the Ironbridge Power Station site and responses will be used to inform the next stages of the Local Plan review. The Town Council will be holding an extraordinary council meeting on Thursday, 15thAugust at 7.00pm at the Guildhall to consider the consultation documents. During the first part of the meeting members of the public will have the opportunity to express their views. On this occasion, members of the public will not need to submit a request to speak in advance.
We would urge all members of the community to consider the consultation documents and make their views known to Shropshire Council. The planned development will undoubtedly have an impact on Much Wenlock, particularly the highways.
On 18thJune Town Councillors attended a meeting with Harworth and representatives from the surrounding parishes to consider the highways implications of the development and subsequently submitted a written response.
Grants
The Town Council has a budget of £2,000 to promote and/or improve the environmental, social and economic well-being of Much Wenlock and its community. Applications for grant awards from this budget are considered each year in October. If your group or organisation would like to apply for a grant, please complete and submit an application by 30thSeptember. Application forms are available to download from the Council’s website:www.muchwenlock-tc.gov.ukor on request from the Council office.
Anti-Social Behaviour
Recently there have been several instances of anti-social behaviour around the Corn Exchange and High Street. If you observe any anti-social behaviour in the town we would urge you to report the matter to the police on 101.
Town Council Surgeries
Forthcoming Town Council surgeries will be held on Saturday, 3rdAugust 2019, Saturday, 7thSeptember and Saturday, 5thOctober between 10.30 am and 12.00 noon in Much Wenlock Library. Town Councillors will be available for members of the community to raise local matters of concern. No appointment is necessary.
